Dekart Private Disk is a file and folder security tool for Windows. It allows you to create virtual drives on your computer which are encrypted with a password, so that no one can open them. These virtual drives are actually image files that are mounted by the application, making them look like regular flash memory drives.
From the main window, you can either create a new image file or use one that has been already created. I created one by myself in a few simple steps. The first thing you need to set is how much space you want the image file to have. Then, you assign it a drive letter (by default, Y:). If you use the default options, the application will then ask you for a password and format the drive. If you quit the application, the drive will be unmounted and access to it will be severed. I liked that Dekart told me about the strength of my password as I was typing it. This encourages you to create better passwords for your disks.
After a disk is created, you can access it from "My Computer"or by the "Explore" button in this application. You can also limit access to the drive to certain applications or configure other applications to run when the disk is connected.
The tool is highly portable and can be used with flash drives for the ultimate portable security solution. |
